Bingo wings Vs. Louboutins: 56% of British women would sacrifice their designer shoes for a pair of perfect arms
- A third of women say arms are the first thing they notice in other women
It means sunglasses and ice lollies, but it also means unleashing your body from its winter wardrobe and putting previously concealed limbs on display. In particular, arms.
And more than half of British women admit to being so panicked about the state of their ‘bingo wings’ that they would trade in their designer shoes in return for a pair of perfect arms.
The great bingo wing debate: Half of all British women would throw away their designer footwear if it meant receiving a pair of perfect arms
A new survey has found that 56 per cent of UK women would throw away their Louboutins and Jimmy Choos in return for perfect arms, while over one third admit to arms being the first physical attribute they notice in other women.
And 87 per cent would happily pay up to £50 to banish their bingo wings.
The findings – collected by Populus on behalf of skincare brand Mama Mio – also revealed the most lusted-after celebrity arms are those belonging to the Duchess of Cambridge and pop princess Cheryl Cole, with the two women combined winning over half the votes.

Dame Helen Mirren’s arms, meanwhile, are the envy of the over 55s, while Michelle Obama’s shapely biceps inspired 11 per cent of UK women.
In terms of the positive qualities most yearned for by women, arms with good definition scored 25 per cent of the vote, a distinct lack of wobble took 33 per cent, and skin which looks healthy 41 per cent.

Celebrity trainer and Mama Mio consultant Efua Baker said: ‘It’s not surprising that arms are a concern for many women, most especially the flabbier tricep at the back of the arm, as they are now on show so often.
‘It’s understandable that women are happy to trade in their luxuries in pursuit of perfection as it’s such a confidence boost to be happy in your own skin and know that others think you look amazing too.’
Though not exclusively age-related, upper arm definition deteriorates from your mid-30s as skin loses elasticity.
Ms Baker added: ‘It’s hard to see the early signs for yourself and many of my clients complain that their arms seemed to change overnight.
‘To ensure shape and definition you have to work your arm muscles regularly, women rarely worry about the ‘front of arm’ muscles as these are used much more in everyday living, however, the trickier and flabbier back of arm – the tricep – is often overlooked until it becomes a problem.
‘It sounds simple but the best results are achieved by those women who are aware of their skin’s condition and exercise regularly, working their muscles to improve tone and appearance.’
