Microneedling , skin needling, derma needling, or the really fancy sounding “collagen induction therapy” is quite possibly the greatest anti-ageing all-rounder procedure you could have. Why?
Well microneedling can be used to treat a number of skin complaints, including pigmentation, wrinkles, acne, scarring, stretch marks and is also perfect for general skin rejuvenation. Plus it’s not limited to your face, Microneedling can be used on many other areas of the body, including the arms, neck, legs, abdomen, back, and hands, and any age and skin tone will benefit from this treatment. Sadly the only skin concern that should not have this treatment are active acne sufferers due to the spread of bacteria and over stimulation.
All sounding too good to be true? The only downside to the treatment is when you hear your skin specialist tell you it involves needles, but fear not, you wont feel a thing. So what happens within this treatment to make it so amazing?
This treatment never fails to impress everyone that has it.
Firstly a numbing cream will be applied to the skin for around 20 minutes, this will ensure that the treatment is as painless as possible. A electronic devise with several vertical needles will cause what’s called a “micro-injury,” which encourages your skin to produce more collagen, just like when you cut yourself, the body knows how to heal and repair the skin, plus the micro channels will enhance the delivery of the topical actives, one of the best being stem cells as they contain growth factors to help heal wounds, repair damaged, aged skin, and reinvigorate the growth of healthy new skin. To gain the best results a course of treatments (4-6) will be needed, and whilst you will see some immediate improvements the true benefits can take up to 3 months.
This is why I personally LOVE this treatment and think this is a perfect ‘Natural’ treatment for improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, acne scarring and stretch marks, making your skin look refreshed and rejuvenated. I have many clients that are not ready for injectables, but want more results than facials and skincare, this treatment never fails to impress everyone that has it.
So, if you’re looking in the mirror and thinking you need to step up your facial experience than here are a few things to look out for. Microneedling is a specialist treatment which should only be carried out by highly trained AND insured professionals. Before the treatment starts ask to watch the therapist open the new, sealed ‘needle unit’, that they will use within the devise. (Never use second hand needles) Plus the therapist must be wearing gloves!
