Key Spring Trends

Spring is one of fashions’ most exciting (but confusing) seasons so learn how bright, short, cinched and tailored your Spring wardrobe needs to be with these top five must haves.

L.W.D. Our favourite fashion staple gets a warm weather make-over – this time it comes in fresh, bright white. The Little White Dress is chic, sexy and utterly feminine, and thanks to almost every designer creating their own version there’s a LWD to fit any body, wardrobe and lifestyle. There are no rules for cut or shape just keep it short – legs are one of your biggest assets this season. Choose from girlie romantic at Chloe and Antonio Berardi, sporty chic at Calvin Klein, short and sexy at Versace and Grecian at 3.1 Philip Lim. For high street versions check out Paul & Joe and Oasis, they have a selection that’s just so now.
Elegantly Waisted
Think of high waisted black trousers as your new more chic, alternative to the evening dress. Go for jet black, high shine tapered trousers with a front crease, as seen at Miu Miu and Hermes. Accentuate your curves by keeping the waist nipped in for extra super sexy appeal. Stella McCartney did a great version for those who want to make a swift transition from day to night. And don’t be put off if your summer radar doesn’t do black – get the material light and cool enough, match with a summer spectrum top and you’ll look and feel bang on trend.
Hippy Chic Dresses
It has to be floor length, it has to be seventies inspired, and it has to have a gorgeous graphic print. Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Jonathan Saunders gave this seventies throwback a thoroughly modern make-over; models sashaying down the runway in bright jewel hued silk dresses.  Alternatively dip your toe into this multicoloured, seventies trend with a retro graphic headscarf (thereby killing two trends in one, the headband is back this season – Accessorize have a great selection).

The Summer Trench
It’s here to stay so it’s worth investing in one. The gorgeous summer trench is effortlessly on trend, and a nifty way of smartening the generally more casual Summer wardrobe. And this time it’s all in the detail – Summer coats come with extra pleats, pockets and ribbons (Aquascutum did some of the prettiest around, with jewelled lapels, smocked tops and pleated full skirts added to the bottom). Do keep the colour light – soft shades of white, beige (which is huge this season) and pale khaki are perfect. Top Shop are following suit with their own range of stunning up-to-date summer trenches.
Animal Print
If you ignored it the first time round, there’s no escaping your inner African Queen this Spring. Fashions graphic moment plays homage to nature’s most beautiful designs; from glamorous giraffe and zebra prints as seen at Derek Lam to chic leopard and tiger as seen at Roberto Cavalli. Winter’s sexy safari prints flowed effortlessly into spring in lighter chiffons and beautiful silks. This look suits everyone (start off with some swimwear or accessories if you’re animal-shy, Moschino Cheap & Chic have some great shoes and bags). But just remember this is one trend where less is definitely more.
