How To: Self-Care Sunday

We’ve all had the Sunday Blues at some point.

Faced with the anxiety of the coming week, it’s easy to slip into a stressed out, agitated headspace. So how best to tackle it? Whether you opt for a long walk, a slowly prepared roast or an indulgent soak in the bath, it’s important to give yourself permission to quiet your mind and relax your body with a little self-care.

From face masks to body scrubs, lazy lunches to yoga classes, we asked Team ELEMIS how they do self-care Sundays; empowering, healing and rejuvenating themselves for the week ahead…

Vanessa Mundy, Communications Assistant

“I start with a big breakfast along the lines of scrambled eggs on toast with avocado, and then I catch up on TV ALL DAY! It’s so easy to start thinking about Monday or guilt-tripping yourself about being relaxed, but it’s vital to switch off on Sundays. Come evening, I run a bath with our Aching Muscle Super Soak, cleanse with the Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm and BIOTEC Skin Energising Cleanser and use my favourite mask, Peptide4 Thousand Flower Mask. My skin loves it and the steam from the bath seems to really help it soak in.
After that it’s all about PJs, slathering myself in oils— Superfood Facial Oil and Peptide4 Night Recovery Cream-Oil are faves—and bed by 9pm.”

Zoe Jones, Senior Marketing Executive

“The last thing I do on a Saturday night is switch off all my alarms so that I can stay in my PJs for as long as possible on Sunday morning.

I put on one of my favourite playlists and listen to it while making brunch and then I go about tackling all my Sunday errands in preparation for the week. If I’m feeling particularly worn out, I have a nice, long bath using the Sea Lavender and Samphire Bath Milk; really taking the time to inhale the aroma.

It’s great to jump out of the bath and close your pores with the Soothing Apricot Toner, and I always finish with Pro-Collagen Marine Cream; its iconic for a reason!”

Josie Johnson, Content Writer

“I like to start my Sundays good and late. At some point, my boyfriend will roll out of bed, switch on the radio and make us coffee and we’ll potter about for a while before heading for a walk around Alexandra Palace or the gym (him), yoga class (me). I’ve got into a great habit of applying the Frangipani oil to the ends of my hair before working out, so that when I go to shampoo, it feels super soft and conditioned.

In the evening, I love to light a scented candle, have a good scrub with our Lime and Ginger Salt Glow and pop on the Dynamic Resurfacing Gel Mask — it’s worth it for the tingle alone! — tying up the day with a glass of wine and a good book.”

Anisha Swali, Creative Designer

“Sundays are a big family day for me. We all laze around in our pyjamas and catch up on TOWIE, Bake Off or whatever else we’ve missed in the week and everyone usually does a face mask. A few favourites among my lot are the Papaya Enzyme Peel, the new Peptide 24/7 mask and the Pro-Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks.

Once everyone has gone, I do a really thorough night time routine with the Peptide 24/7 range and then meditate while applying the Quiet Mind Temple Balm to my neck, ear lobes and temples. I also carry it on the tube with me in the mornings in case I’m feeling hot or stressed out; a few pats on your wrists and temples and you just feel instantly relaxed.”

Charlotte Firouz, Campaign Marketing Executive

“On Sundays, I go to the farmer’s market next to my house and pick up some food to prepare a big brunch for my boyfriend, friends or sisters. After the effort comes the comfort; I watch a good TV show, and if my skin is feeling congested or if I want a bit of a treat, I do my little at-home spa session:
Cleanse with Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm (I leave it on for a while if I’m feeling indulgent.)
Exfoliate with Skin Buff (feels quite vigorous on the skin, but I really love it!!)
Tone with Rehydrating Ginseng Toner
Apply Papaya Enzyme Peel + Pro-Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks (I leave them both on for as long as it takes to prep dinner or sort through laundry!)
Finish with a good massage of Superfood Facial Oil.”

Lucy Frosdick, Communications Manager

“I’m getting married this year so I’m keen to keep up a routine that will give me really glowing wedding day skin. I do a deep cleanse with the Pro-Collagen Rose Cleansing Balm and then I try to avoid wearing makeup to give my skin a rest for at least one day out of the week! It’s always good to go for a walk in my local park, stopping off there for a drink or two—there’s a café and a pub so our choice depends on the mood!

A mask in the bath is the ultimate way to treat yourself, but it’s also lovely to plump your skin with a facial massage using the amethyst roller from our Peptide 24/7 collection. I keep mine in the fridge for a really cooling treat and then apply the Pro-Collagen Overnight Matrix to targeted areas before bed. If that doesn’t help you wake up feeling fresh on Monday, nothing will!”
